Learn Fast! Play Hard! Have Fun!
Youth Programs: Among our programs for BOYS and GIRLS to learn and play field hockey is FUNdamentals, an initiative of USA Field Hockey. Players return to this OAFHA program year after year because they learn introductory and advanced skills quickly in a ‘fun first’ environment.
Many of the ‘graduates’ from our youth programs can be found playing for their high school teams and some seek out even more competitive levels of play by trying out for travel teams. In fact, some of OAFHA’s earliest participants are ‘old timers’ competing at the college level.
Super6s: OAFHA provides men and women with playing opportunities. Our most recent outdoor Super6s league provided playing opportunities to more than 100 people — ages 14 to 73. Any athlete who is at least a rising high school freshman can participate. Our indoor Super6s program runs from November 3 – December 29, with a possible extension into January and February.
Presentations: Our founder, Cris Maloney, a successful field hockey player, coach, umpire, and author, will come to your school to give a 90-minute presentation teaching an understanding of field hockey in a fun, fast and exciting way. Featuring photographs, high definition videos, illustrations, and real world stories from his nearly four decades within the sport, Cris brings the sport alive for audience members — for coaches, players, parents, and umpires.
Umpiring: Hockey needs umpires and entry-level umpires earn about $50 per hour. You can learn how to umpire from the comfort of your home by taking the online umpiring course. The course is open to males and females 13 years of age and older. It can be taken on your computer, tablet, and/or smartphone. OAFHA students have gone on to umpire middle school, high school, club, college club, international club, and college games.
